The reined execution, the fascinating scene and the unusually large format make this a milestone in the history of printmaking. It is not for nothing that this is the earliest engraving to bear a full signature. The frieze-like composition, full of movement and violence, calls to mind reliefs of classical antiquity. The anatomical accuracy, with particular focus on the musculature, is typical of the art of the Renaissance.
