This coastal view by the renowned American Impressionist is a Long Island landscape. It was described in a 1929 catalog as picturing, “undulating sand dunes with patches of gorse and shrubbery, the blue sea beyond contrasted against the summer sky with tinted ivory cumulus cloud forms.” The Hassams purchased a property at East Hampton and by 1919 had made it their permanent summer residence. The artist converted the barn into a studio and continued to paint there into the 1930s.
