Metallic red beach bucket with cream coloured figures of children, birds and a dog in bas-relief. Garlands of flowers rim the top and bottom of the bucket.
South Australia has always had a strong beach culture. Often the only way Adelaidians endured the sweltering summers was by retreating to the seaside. Beach buckets like this one were popular children's toys and were used for beachcombing and building sandcastles from the 19th century up until the present. This is a fine example of the simple style of early twentieth century buckets and is connected with the childhood of Anna Moir Rennie, one of Port Adelaide's leading female figures.
