A man with a red face wearing a blue cloak and showing his open hands on a blue background with dark shades.
Rafael Coronel develops an art work based on the portrait of religious characters like monks and representations of death. He creates fantastic worlds with simple even empty background which emphasize the characters. Coronel was also a mask collector, objects that are recurrent in his work.
This piece shows a contrast of colors with large gray and blue areas against the small ones in red and pink make it cold. These large areas of colors are emphasized by the serigraphy technique.
The function of the mask in Coronel's work is related to the mystery, the occult and sometimes the death.
"Beatificación" is a declaration of holiness for a saint, even though the man ask for calm even if the mask hides something.
