The upper floor of the Beauchamp Tower was not an original part of the building. It was created by lowering the ceiling of the room below and raising the roof of the tower. In the 1850s it was combined with spaces on the ground floor and roof level, plus newly-created rooms inside the medieval walls, to form a domestic residence for one of the Yeomen Warders’ families.
