Cultures of Central Andes (Ancash)20th century

Milan, Italy

Bed blanket with central decoration (an Asian tiger) and a floral frame. The Asian tiger is probably a local imitation of the industrial "Santa Catalina" type textiles which had Asian tigers as main motif. The imitation of an industrial motif alluded to the owner's prerogative to access to a "citizen" and industrialized figurative imagery, thus becoming a symbol of prestige.
