Nairobi, Kenya

Bowl shaped aluminium strainer punched all over with small holes. Made by men about 30 years old from an old aluminium sufuria. This is a new invention by a man called Sangoiya as far as is known invented and used by Ogiek only. The holes are made with a wooden handle pushed very hard by hand. The round shape is a result of continually squeezing beer through it when the bottom was worn through, a patch was put on and attached by rivetting and wiring done by an old man. Used by both sexes, Women to squeeze maize residue from maize pombe and men to strain ncomb bits from honey pombe.
