Beethoven with the manuscript of the Missa solemnis

Two completely new techniques make this painting, created in 1820, the most famous representation of Ludwig van Beethoven to this day. Firstly, it shows the artist at work. In his hands Beethoven holds the manuscript in his "Missa Solemnis". He seems to write down the notes with complete ease. On the other hand, Beethoven is surrounded by a forest landscape, expressing his love for nature.
