BEING TIME: annual rings of a 12 million year old petrified tree, Northern Turkana, Rift Valley, Kenya.

Annual rings are discernible on the petrified stumps in the Turkana Basin. The petrified trees of the “Listening to the Rift Valley” project have many stories to tell. Kenyan paleobotanist Dr. Rahab Kinyanjui gleans into the memory of these trees.

Artists Olga Kisseleva and James Mweu celebrated this age old memory and the instance of connection by making the pertrified tree the centre of their BEING TIME performance.
