One of a set of 18 circular Belgian plates. This plate depicts the market place at Ypres with horse-driven cart in the right foreground. Ypres was the scene of multiple battles during World War I, including the Third Battle of Ypres from July to November 1917 in which over half a million troops died. Plate has a blue and gold decorated border was presented to President Wilson by the King and Queen of Belgium at the White House, October 30, 1919.
