Viennese painter and winner of the prestigious Füger Award, Karl Goebel was a frequent guest at European courts. He visited Belgrade on two occasions, at the invitation of the Duke of Michael and Milan Obrenovic, in 1861 and 1881. After his first visit, , he issued a series of very well-known panoramas of Belgrade, in Vienna in 1862.
