View of the women's camp at Belsen showing piles of dead bodies with emaciated survivors wandering through the
camp

When Cole, an artist, visited shortly after liberation, women were still dying from the diseases rife in the camp. Here, he depicts women survivors, alongside the bodies of the dead or dying. Their bodies could not yet be buried because there were not enough British Army medical personnel to check whether they were still alive.
