The Obsculta museum, located inside the Benedictine monastery of San Giuseppe, opened in 2011 during the fourth centenary of its foundation, on request of the Benedictine nuns belonging to the ‘Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, who keep the centuries-old spiritual history of the order.
Obsculta is the beginning of San Benedetto’s rule: “Listen, my son, the master’s teachings and gently open your heart”. The reason behind the origin of this museum was to create a place where the monastery and the society could listen each other: a place where to re-find and recognize each other.
It is a small but fascinating tour to be done around the church of San Giuseppe – considered a jewel of the late Sicilian baroque style – where visitors, through documents and various objects, will see the key historical developments of the monastery and the spiritual life of its community.
