Charcoal drawing with stylized portrait of Bernardo Valentim Moreira de Sá (1853-1924) by the painter and designer António Carneiro.
Moreira de Sá was an important Portuguese violinist, conductor, musicologist, pedagogue and music promoter, a great dynamizer of Porto's musical culture. He was the founder of Sociedade de Quartetos (1871), Sociedade de Música de Câmara, Sociedade Orpheon Portuense (1881) and Quarteto Moreira de Sá (1884). He was also organizer and first director of the Conservatório Municipal do Porto (1917).
This drawing was offered by Moreira de Sá's granddaughters: Helena Sá e Costa (1913-2006) and Madalena Sá e Costa (1915-), also with very prestigious musical careers.
