California Museum

California Museum
Sacramento, United States

Betty Inada (1913-2001) realized that she could never become a major star in the U.S. because of her ethnicity. In 1933, she left for Japan. She wasn’t fluent in Japanese, but her American-accented singing was a hit. She became Japan’s most popular pre-World War II female jazz singer.
