Cover of race card listing rules, races and names of race officials for the Indian Ocean Meeting aboard Orient liner Orsova in 1933. The card reflects the sort of recreational activities organised by shipping companies in the 1930s. Deckside 'horse races' were a popular entertainment where passengers competed against each other to wind in wooden horses attached to lines of string. Passengers could also gamble on the races.
