Bhadra Kapilani Bhiksuni

Bhadra Kapilani was born with beauty and virtue. She wanted to lead a spiritual life, so she renounced and joined the Sangha after the Bhiksuni Order was established. However, her outstanding beauty led to jealousy from others. When she was on alms rounds, she was often the target of gossip because of her striking appearance. Bhadra could not help but be aggrieved by her own beauty. Fortunately, with her accumulation of wholesome karma from past lives, she did not lose faith in spite of her plight. Instead, this spurred her to concentrate on practicing the Dharma and she soon attained Arhatship.
