Magnificent title page of the 2nd volume of the extremely sumptuously produced Luther Bible with coloured woodcut illustrations from the workshop of Lukas Cranach the Younger. The book originates from the library of Prince Eugene of Savoy, which was acquired by the Imperial-Royal Court Library in 1738. After the death of the reformer Martin Luther in 1546, this 1545 edition was regarded as the decisive “final edition by Luther himself”. The 1545 edition is still used today both in the original spelling and in a linguistically adapted version.
