These selected samples represent only four sub - indigenous societies among three of the four main regions of PNG. They highlight common features of different bilum structures, designs and patterns, color and fiber usage. The distinct layers and variations in designs and patterns vary in traditional societies. Bilum weavers carefully designs and patterns into layers and variations found in various traditional societies. The three regions excluding New Guinea Islands region have common but distinct designs and patterns while some societies in these regions have only pure white fiber bilums. The bilum identity and its cultural representation copyright owmership as intengible items safeguarding and their cultural space occupation need reviving, curing and mainting for preservation continuity.
