A historic record of prefectural governors in Meiji Period. The governors on these two pages were former vassals of Tottori Domain. Tokyo Governor, Michiyuki Matsuda, is depicted on the right. Matsuda studied at Tottori Domain's school, Shotokukan. After the Meiji Restoration, he was appointed vice-governor in Kyoto in 1860 and assumed as governor of Tokyo in 1879. Kyoto Governor, Kunimichi Kitagaki, is depicted on the left. Kitagaki was born in Tajima Province. He raised an army at Ikuno Silver Mine in 1863, but was defeated and hid in Chohu Province. Later on, he became a samurai in Tottori and in 1881, assumed as governor of Kyoto. Kitagaki was famous for his projects such as the Lake Biwa Canal Project.
