P. Domšaitis painted romantic avenues of birches on many occasions, it being an especially important motif to him personally, always reminding him of his homeland, wherever he happened to be. The wide road winding its way across green meadows meanders deep into the painting, perhaps to his birthplace? The foliage of the lush birches covers the sky. Similar sections of old roads can still be found today in Western Lithuania. Light strokes and a broad pallette ideally conveys the mood of a peaceful summer’s day. The green-brown colouring taken from nature is characteristic of P. Domšaitis’ early paintings.
