Bishop's crozier

This outstanding crozier consists of a staff with ring-shaped bands and a crook with a free-standing figurine, the lion of St Mark on a plain pedestal. The staff, with vertical fluting, is decorated with stylised rosettes and a fine geometric pattern. On the typically Gothic architectural nodus there are niches with low-relief images of Mary, St John the Evangelist, St John the Baptist, St Margaret and an unknown bishop. The last niche is empty. The same workshop presumably produced another two almost identical croziers, now in the monastery church in Moggio in Italy and in Hever Castle in England.
