This is a black-and-white warbler (Mniotilta varia), one of earlier spring migrants to return to the Midwest for breeding season. Female. Although black-and-white warblers spend the majority of their time in the trees, they actually build their nests on the ground. This specimen, a female, was collected by former Academy director Howard K. Gloyd in 1965.
