This emerald from Socoto, Brazil, can be seen here in the metamorphic rock in which it was formed. Emeralds are usually found in this state. This is called ‘in situ’. The white rock is responsible for the light elements of which emerald is composed. The dark rock contains chromium that causes its deep green color.
