In the 1968 Olympics, the podium of the 200 meter freestyle was marked by political protest. Delivery of medals, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, respectively first and third place, raised his fist and clenched his hand in protest to the social context of violence against African-American population. The act was later known as mark of motion "Black Power". In addition, the three - Peter Norman, the second place of the podium - used the insignia of the Olympic Project for Human Rights (OPHR) - which Carlos and Smith were activists from the university stage.
