Black Sunday Rescues

The lifesavers worked tirelessly, bringing in patients and battling back through the surf to look for more. They were hampered by thousands of onlookers, trying to "help" with the rescue efforts. For a while there was chaos both in the surf and on the beach.

Before sufficient police arrived, the few lifesavers not working in the surf were busy trying to resuscitate half drowned people, so there were none to keep the onlookers and would-be helpers in check.
