This is a special big awl which is flattened just behind its tip. It is made by gastola then hafted by putting the iron awl in the fire to make it red hot and the haft is hit onto the awl which is stuck in a log of wood. This is used for dividing up the links of inganga. Smaller awls are used for dividing up.
