Blickensderfer 6 typewriter

Typewriter, Blickensderfer 6, metal / rubber, designed by George Canfield Blickensderfer, made by Blickensderfer Typewriter Company, Stamford, Connecticut, United States of America, 1906. A small, skeletal typewriter with keys that extend on arms in a fan shape beyond the small aluminium base. In front of the keys the small space bar extends on a seperate metal tab through the bottom row of keys. The keys are black and round, with white letters, with two characters per key. The upper set is the alpha keys, and the lower numeric and additional characters. Above the keys the body extends in a rough triangle, and on the top is screwed a large copper plate. Above that is the unique cylindrical disk on which the letters and numbers appear, which moves down and around to the relevant letter when the keys is depressed. The base is also aluminium, with small black rubber feet. A sturdy metal grill is screwed on the underside below the movement. A small metal support is attached at the top that can be moved out to hold paper in place when in use.
