Block printing the impermeable clay Dabu

The resist Dabu clay paste is made of a complex mixture of silt, from the dried river-bed, a local natural gum, lime, sugar-cane molasses, and water to form the paste. Kneaded by stamping, it takes several days to get the mixture right, after which it is strained before use.
The areas of the motif that are white are first stamped with the Dabu paste, covered with sawdust without delay to ensure the wet clay does not smudge and sun dried until the paste hardens. The fabric is then dip dyed.

This process of Dabu resist is repeated and the fabric dipped into the next color dye bath, till all the colors required are achieved.
