The Mata Ni Pachedi is created by using a combination of painting and block printing. In any single peice up to 200 to 250 separate blocks can be used to build up the Pachedi. The craftsperson usually use only the rekh outline blocks.

Even with continuous use, a block needs to be changed only once every five years. The expert block makers reside in Pethapur, a village about 50 kms from Ahmedabad.

The outline rekh block here depicts a Raja, King on horseback.
