Though primarily a painter of people and secondarily of animals and birds, Eileen was also fascinated by rustic, weathered entrances and facades, and mysterious settings. Here she placed an empty chair in front of a partially opened door. What’s going on here? Who was there? Why the flowers? When asked such questions, Eileen just smiled. Well, let’s see for ourselves, first the obvious: the flowers anchor the composition. The rest? “That’s up to you (the viewer),” Eileen said. “Whatever you see. I felt this as a wonderful, thoughtful composition. I painted it for me.”
