In the fall of 1937, in the artistic isolation due to the hospitalization in a care center in Ascona for the incipient scleroderma, Klee was able to find new creative stimuli and often worked using crayons, a means easy to handle and transport. The following year he increasingly used crayons for works performed in the studio, and Bliten der Nacht is one of them.
The entire surface of the canvas is divided into small areas by gently curved lines and the result is a set of irregular shapes large and small similar to the pieces of a puzzle, colored red, blue, blue, moss green, purple, dark brown, oil green and light green.
