Conceptually designed, COOP HIMMELB(L)AU plays with exorbitant spatial phantasies. “Coop Himmelblau ist keine Farbe, sondern die Idee, Architektur mit Phantasie leicht und veränderbar wie Wolken zu machen” [Coop Himmelblau is not a color but the idea of creating architecture with fantasy, as buoyant and changeable as clouds.] was the keynote statement of the team of architects from Vienna which set out to lift the world of construction out of its hinges and to give utopias a shape. BMW Welt is one of many projects in which COOP HIMMELB(L)AU succeeded in realizing architecture as an ensemble and metaphor. A transparent hall designed as a dynamic Double Cone with a sculptural roof serves as the intersection and communication center between product, company, and the public.
