Aggravation is a 20th century version of Parcheesi, and Parcheesi is an American adaptation of the Indian Cross and Circle game Pachisi. The game is often subtitled Royal Game of India because Pachisi, created in India around 500 BC, symbolized dancers as red, yellow, blue, and green pawns on palace grounds.
Over the ensuing years, many other game producers brought out their versions, under slightly different names and designs. It is played in many other countries, under various names, as well. It has also influenced later 20th century spin-off American games, such as Trouble, Sorry, Aggravation, and Wahoo! All are versions of, or very similar to, Parcheesi. The popularity of these later adaptations shows the enduring influence of this classic board game.
