Created by Harold Gray in 1924 for the Chicago Tribune's comics page, Little Orphan Annie has gone on to become the subject of a radio series, movies in 1932 and 1938, a Broadway musical in 1977, and a movie of the musical in 1982, a made-for-television sequel (1995) to the musical, and a made-for-television revival of the popular Broadway show (1999). Annie's happily ever after story that starts in an orphanage and continues in the comfort of the home of her benefactor Daddy Warbucks appealed to down-on-their-luck Americans everywhere. Her popularity over the years has produced a variety of dolls, paper dolls, and Annie-related toys. The comic strip continued until it was cancelled in 2010.
