In 1923 two brothers, Henry and Helal Hassenfeld, founded Hassenfeld Brothers, originally a textile company based in New Jersey. The company switched its focus by the 1940s, when it introduced its first toys, and later shortened its name to Hasbro Industries. Since, the company has become a giant in the toy industry, absorbing other toy and game manufacturers such as Milton Bradley, Parker Brothers, and Playskool under the Hasbro umbrella. While these subsidiaries created many of the games that now bear the Hasbro name, including Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, and Monopoly, Avalanche is a Hasbro original. Players drop marbles down the game's channels, impeded by swinging plastic gates. Each player must use logic to deduce which way the gates will move and try to get as many marbles as possible to the bottom of the channels.
