Board game:Blizzard of '77 Travel Game

In late January of 1977, after an exceedingly cold winter, a stalled weather front and Lake Erie conspired to create dramatic swings in temperature and huge amounts of snow. Buffalo and several surrounding counties were helpless for a week during what was named the Blizzard of '77. The Feds called a state of national emergency and enlisted both the National Guard and the United States Army to dig Western New York State out. One entrepreneurial game player devised this board game: "The Blizzard of '77." The clever design includes a two-sided board. All is well on the "sunny side" until a player draws the "blizzard!" card and the board is turned over. The game imitates life as travel cards limit a player's options and food and necessities become scarce. The game's promoters eventually made similar games for many northern cities plagued by snow.The game documents an event many will long remember as an entire region came to an abrupt standstill.
