Engraved silver plaques were also incorporated in furniture and other household items. The plaques on the top, bottom and interior of this fold-out box form the white squares of boards for familiar games such as chess, chequers and tric-trac (like backgammon), as well as the now forgotten game of Alquerque (or Quirkat). The decorative edges feature landscapes. No one scene is identical. Animals, figures and objects alternate in the squares.
