Soon after Parker Brothers purchased the rights to manufacture Monopoly from Charles Darrow, sales of the popular game began to skyrocket. Brisk sales during 1935 led to record-setting sales in 1936. In an effort to boost sales for their new stock market game, Bulls and Bears, Parker Brothers added a photo of Charles Darrow to the cover of the box with the caption "by Charles B. Darrow. Monopoly, etc." despite the fact that Darrow had not invented the game. Bulls and Bears enjoyed steady sales at first, largely due to the success of its popular predecessor Monopoly, but word quickly spread that the game was disappointing and sales decreased steadily leading to its eventual demise.
