In America the crossword puzzle became extremely popular during the 1920s. Although the New York Times announced later in that decade that "the fad had passed," people everywhere counted on a daily puzzle in their newspapers. Amazingly, the Times did not publish one until 1942. Today the New York Times Crossword Puzzle is probably the nation's most famous one, and it is often the most difficult to solve. This 1997 board game, based on the Times puzzle, demonstrates the continuted popularity of the puzzles as well as the frequent interpretation of such popular pastimes as board games.
