After the invention, in 1888, of the pneumatic tire by Scotman Alfred Dunlop, the so-called "Golden Age of Bicycles" occurred during the 1890s. Other innovations helped popularize the sport and pastime, and bicycles became a common sight across this country and in Europe. McLoughlin Brothers game manufacturers took advantage of the fascination with bicycles and introduced their "Game of Bicycle Race" in 1891. All kinds of races offered easy interpretation for game producers as simple racing board games.
