The 20th century saw the rise of a new game in Europe and, to some extent, in America. Salta is based on the earlier game Halma, and it resembles the game Chinese Checkers. Salta became a society game, especially well-known in Germany and throughout Europe. After World War I, when European culture changed, Salta dropped out of sight and disappeared.
