For Marvel Comics, saving the world has become a profitable enterprise. Originally known as Timely Publications when founded by Martin Goodman in 1939, the company explored the exciting and popular new medium of comic books. In the 1960s, the company changes its name to Marvel Comics and introduced its first superhero team, "The Fantastic Four," and with it launched a superhero empire, due in part to the genius of writer and producer Stan Lee. Spider-Man, Iron Man, X-Men, the Hulk, Thor, and Captain America all dwell in the Marvel Universe. The superheroes have since left the confines of the comic book pages, finding their way to board games, trading cards, clothing items, video games, and movies. Milton Bradley introduced Marvel Comics: Super Heroes in 1980, a strategic, chess-like game in which players battle with popular Marvel heroes and villains.
