Rufus Bliss founded the R. Bliss Manufacturing Company in 1832. The firm began to manufacture toys sometime later in the 19th century. Recognized for brightly colored chromolithography on paper, mounted on wood, Bliss toys and games are prized by collectors today. The Robinson Crusoe game comes from a series of best-selling Bliss games, all marketed in similar boxes marked with the titles of the series. This game bears a copyright date of 1898.
