Parker Brothers produced the game "The Game of Jolly Tars" during the late 19th century. The word "Tar" referred to a sailor, most generally British, from the time of the British Empire. Not generally a derogatory term, Tar also figured in several songs from Gilbert & Sullivan's popular operetta "H.M.S. Pinafore." The Game of Jolly Tars is a simple race game featuring ships racing in a voyage.
