Producers Hanna-Barbera unveiled its animated situation comedy series "The Jetsons" in 1960. Based on the success of its predecessor "The Flintstones," a family in a pre-historic setting, the futuristic Jetsons found only moderate success. "The Jetsons" relied on the gimmick of their futuristic setting to add humor to their otherwise 1950s-era comedy. Some critics, however, have pointed out how eerily the producers predicted so many of the gadgets and lifestyle enhancements society has seen since then. Regardless of initial success, the series returned with new episodes during the 1980s. And during this run a new character, Orbitty, became the family's newest (alien) pet. Milton Bradley quickly produced an inexpensive board game during this time, which prominently featured the newest character.
