Recorders (VCRs) to record and play back television on VCR tapes. These became popularized in the mid-1970s and lasted until the late 1980s, when the growth of the DVD industry began to supplant them. Manufacturers utilized VCR tapes for some other types of entertainment, including games. So-called "VCR games," or "VCR board games" enjoyed a brief flash of popularity when nearly every American household, at least, boasted a VCR. These games involved a degree of interaction with the tapes' content.
