A bobbin winder was used to wind the spun yarn onto a reel or bobbin. This dark study was one of a series of illustrations of weavers and yarn-spinners in their working surroundings that Vincent van Gogh made in the winter of 1883-1884. Van Gogh has rendered the fall of light with a few effective touches of light grey.
