Following their appearance in the 2011 World Cup Finals, Abby Wambach and her U.S. Women's National Team colleagues returned from Germany to resume their roles with their respective teams in the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league. A WPS match-up in Rochester, New York, ensued between the Western New York Flash and Abby's team, magicJack. Abby Mania around Rochester, Wambach's home town, made the question of whether or not Abby would even show up--let alone play--a hot topic. A "Welcome Home" rally scheduled for the day of the game boosted the excitement level further and drew about 2,000 fans, all eager to see Abby. One of Wambach's corporate sponsors, MVP Health Care distributed these promotional bobblehead figures at the rally. Wambach did indeed appear at the rally and later gave a halftime speech to a record crowd of 15,404 who had gathered for the game between magicJack and the Western New York Flash game. A ceremony that followed bestowed Abby with the key to the city, along with a proclamation that July 20, 2011, would forever be known as "Abby Wambach Day."
