Bochlo, Child's Cap

Sanskriti Museums

Sanskriti Museums
New Delhi, India

This cap of a young Rabari girl has been extended back to cover her hair. The open chain-stitch embroidered motifs are further outlined with dots of white running stitch at places. The cap has been put together by joining fragments of an older cap with machine stitching of pipings and salvages. The stylized peacock, parrot, flower and elephant motifs are typical of KutchyRabari embroidery.
Such caps were conventionally worn by young Rabari girls at a fair or on festive occasions.
